Objectives of the Library:

  To cater text books to the students of the college and to provide reference help to the college students and teachers. The aim of the library is to enrich their knowledge by providing reading materials during leisure.

Services:

In present day ,library provides the following services to the students, teachers and non-teaching staff:

  1. Circulation Service
  2. Reference Service
  3. Reading-room Service
  4. Reprographic Service
  5. Internet Service

1. Circulation Services:

  Library circulation: (both issue and return)150 books per day. Per day approximately 15 reference books issused for reading room consultation.

Fine: fine of 1 rupee per day will be charged. If books are not return after 15days for one time.

2. Reference Services:

  Library has a small reference collection. Dictionary , Encyclopaedia based quaries are meet up daily for advance study.

3. Reading-room Services:

  Library has a reading room of 70 seats.Books are issued to readers for reading room purpose on daily card.

4. Reprographic Services:

  College has installed one Xerox machine. Daily or working day,students are reffered to xerox operator for duplication of collected book.60 paisa per page is collected for photo-copying of books.

5. Internet Services:

  Internet service provided mainly to the teachers for sharpening of their class-teaching.

  The College is provided with well-equipped laboratories which are designed to meet the need of science students for their practical courses.

  The University Grants Commission has sanctioned a grant for constructing Women's Hostel in the college premises. The project has already srarted and college will be able to provide facilities from 2013 onwards.


  The college awards prizes every year to meritorious students and to students who excel in cultural activities and sports.

  The canteen of the college supplies food to students at subsidized rates.

  Students of Botany Honours, Zoology Honours and Industrial Fish and Fisheries Major have to attend educational excursion as specified in the University curriculum, at their own cost. The Department of English, History, Political Science and Philosophy among others also arrange educational excursions though it is not compulsory.

  All regular students of the College are members of the Students' Union, a representative body of elected students. It is entrusted with the task of organizing Freshers' Welcome, Annual Sports and Cultural Competition with the help of the teachers and non-teaching staff of the college. The Students' Union also hosts its own Annual Social Function. For any type of information students may contact the General Secretary of Student`s Union Sujit Ghosh (Mob-89812 08815) .

  There are two different common rooms for boys and girls of the college with provision for indoor games.

  Final year students of Industrial Fish and Fisheries Major have to undertake on job training at different Central and State Government departments, and Institutes such as ICAR, KVK, at their own cost.

  The College publishes a magazine, Lekha Manjari each year. It showcases the literary and artistic reflections of the students who contribute their essays, short stories, poems, travelogue and drawings. Teachers and staff of the college also contribute their thoughts in the magazine.

  A cultural competition is organized each year in the college. An annual sports meet is held in the college grounds. The Students' Union plays a key role in these programmes. Departmental excursions are held regularly by various departments. Seminars and lectures also form an important part of the academic scenario of the college. Students are encouraged to actively participate in all programmes.

 The college arranges a number of National level Seminars and symposia every year. The seminar to commemorate the Centenary of the Theory of Relativity, on Weather and Climate in Eastern India, Biodiversity, New View of the Solar System, The Mutiny of 1857, on Women and Literature are some of the recent seminars held in the college.

 A number of teachers of the college are actively engaged in research and their findings are being published in national and international journals of high repute. About 30 of the faculty members have been recipients of the UGC Minor Research Project Grant. Some teachers have the experience of research in countries like USA, Japan, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic and United Kingdom.

  The College has LCD Projectors, a television set and a DVD player for the purpose of showing films, documentaries etc. to the students.

  The College has a unique possession of a foreign-made telescope, which is fitted at the roof. Sky watching programmes are arranged by the teachers, students and non-teaching staff of the college during special astronomical events.

  The alumni association of the college, B.K.C College Praktani Samsad, was established in 1999. A marble bust of Brahmananda Keshab Chandra has been erected/installed by the Praktani Samsad in the college premises. The Samsad provided financial assistance to the members of the association who are in need. It has instituted academic prizes for students topping in various honours subjects at the university examinations. The Samsad arranges Seminar, Symposia and cultural programmes every year and also bring out an annual magazine.
